Hi there! I’m honored that you would like to learn more about World War 2 history through the stories and photos of my mom, Lucille Maris, and my dad (her hubby), Lt. Col. James R. Maris, who flew 30 missions in World War 2 as a pilot of a B-24 bomber.
I’ve been interviewing Mom, now 94 years young, to capture her perspective of being a stateside bride in the US during war time as my dad flew, with the 9 other members of his crew, out of a base in England.
Mom shares about life while my dad was in flight training in the USA and moving from base to base, and then what it was like when he headed overseas.
I’ve also captured her stories in a 2-disc audio program, Stories of a Stateside Bride, which is available at cdbaby. The program includes a couple of older (1990s) audio recordings of my dad talking about those times in WWII. The program can be purchased as a 2-disc set or as a digital download. Previews of the tracks are available when you visit this link: www.cdbaby.com/artist/vickiemaris
You might also enjoy the online course, Pilot’s Wife Tells of Life During World War 2. It’s a course I’ve created for the Udemy platform, in which I interviewed Lucille on camera. The course is documentary style video.
You will learn about how she and Jim made decisions about enlistment, about the timing of their marriage, about where they were when Pearl Harbor was bombed on Dec. 7, 1941. You’ll hear her talk about her stress during the times her military spouse was deployed, and about their communication via letters during their longs months of separation. Visit the Products page in this site to find links to register for the course and other related items.
I hope you enjoy the site and the blog posts that expand upon the stories told in the audio and video programs.
